If you are already an experienced player you may be able to join at any time if we have space available in the section you wish to play in.
From autumn 2014, we will only have two beginner intakes a year – one after the October week school holiday and one after the Easter school holiday. We will be operating a waiting list in between these two intakes for beginners wishing to join. Our minimum joining age for minors is 10 years.

Joining & Practice/Tuition Fees
Your first week with us is free to try before completing our application form and committing to join. Our annual (April to March) membership joining fee’s are:
Adult Fee £10 / Junior U18’s £5 / Concession O65’s £5

Thereafter a monthly fee of £10 is payable by ALL band members and MUST to be paid by standing order on the first of each month. A form is available to assist you with this which will be included with your application form. It can also be downloaded from the members section of the website.
For new members who have yet to set up a standing order, either pay £10 to cover the first full calendar month or £3 each week when attending practice depending on when you join. All members & parents/guardians should ensure that any money due is paid PRIOR to practice commencing.

Intermediate/Advanced Tenor/Bass Lesson is two hours 7:00pm – 9:00pm with Alan Jordon.
Beginner/Intermediate Snare Lesson is one hour 7:00pm – 8:00pm with Andy Baillie.
Intermediate/Advanced Snare Lesson is two hours 7:00pm – 9:00pm with Gary Bourhill
Intermediate/Advanced Piping (& Adult Beginner/ intermediate) Lesson is two hours 7:00pm – 9:00pm with Pipe Major Rod Paton, Pipe Sergeant Colin Sturrock and tutor James King.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO
Cockenzie & Port Seton RBL Pipes & Drums request consent from members, parents/guardians to allow the organisers, local and national newspapers to photograph/video members of the band during practice evenings, outings and future events. The photographs/video will be used to promote the band and may be used in newsletters, leaflets, posters, YouTube, Facebook, other social networking sites and the band website. Photos/videos posted or linked to the bands Facebook page may be copied for use on the bands website. They may also be published by the media. The photos/videos may be used as a record of the bands progress and could also be displayed at events or used to promote the band on fundraising applications.
BAND KIT & INSTRUMENTS
Any kit issued by the band: kilts, kilt pins, jackets, waistcoats, sporrans, Glengarry’s, hat badges, hackles, ties and instruments, drum rain covers/towels, drum sticks/beaters remain the property of the band and as such we expect them to be returned in good condition. These are high value items and must be returned immediately membership is terminated, failure to do so may result in legal action to recover the costs. Members must provide their own chanter for practice. If going on parade, the band will provide sticks/beaters & pipe bag covers/cords, but members must provide their own bagpipes, rain cape, ghillie brogues, short sleeved white shirt & kilt socks. Subsidised band coloured kilt socks are available to buy.

PRACTICE TIMES AND RULES
Parents/guardians of under 16’s are expected to bring their child into the practice hall and view information on events, competitions, fundraisers, etc., that may be available on the notice board. Likewise it is the parents/guardians responsibility to arrive before the end of practice to collect their child. We request that parents/guardians/siblings do NOT stay in the halls during the practice sessions and any conversations with tutor’s takes place at the end of the session when you return to collect your child. Please ensure you arrive promptly ready to play your instrument for the start of your practice session. Thursday practice is between 7pm and 9pm and usually includes a full band practice in the second hour, with all members present playing their instruments in the band circle or sitting trying to play along on their drum pads/tenor sticks or chanters as directed by their section leaders. Please ensure you make the effort to practice out with practice sessions. Training resources to assist you are available on the password protected “Members Only” pages of the band website. The password is printed on your membership card but is subject to change during the year.
We will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal effects and would recommend no high value items are brought to practice. ALL phones and gaming devices MUST be switched off for the practice duration. Cockenzie & Port Seton Royal British Legion Tel: 01875 810103 can be used to contact a member in an emergency. No alcohol should be consumed by members taking part in practice and junior members are not permitted in any open bar area. Juice & snacks are permitted DURING BREAK ONLY at the end of the first hour and ALL LITTER MUST BE CLEARED AWAY afterwards. The practice area used must be left in a neat and tidy state, with all tables/chairs and mats returned to their proper places. Any unexplained absence of 4 consecutive weeks will result in automatic termination of membership and you will be required to return all band property immediately. Our band does not tolerate any form of bullying, racism or religious bigotry and if any such behaviour becomes evident, members involved will be immediately expelled from the band and where necessary parents/guardians contacted.
A band the size of ours constantly needs to raise funds to keep operating. All members are required to show commitment to the band by taking an active part in assisting to raise funds by helping to sell tickets and attending as many fund raising events and band performances as possible, whether playing or not.
Membership with us may be terminated should you practice with or assist another band without seeking the consent of the Pipe Major/Pipe Sergeant to do so. With the exception of PLHS competing members, we do not allow members of other competing bands to practice with us unless it is in an official capacity (such as providing tutoring services) authorised by the Committee.
TUITION AND PARENT/GUARDIAN/ADULT HELPERS
Band members are taught by external tutors as well as by other band members. Those giving tuition may be adults or minors. For minors becoming a member of the band, Parents/Guardians agree to adult Committee members, adult section leaders and adult tutors acting on Parents/Guardians behalf as delegated responsible persons for the purposes of The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Any parent/guardian helper, other adult associated with the band or band member involved in the caring, teaching, instructing, training or supervising of minors must additionally complete our Self Declaration form. Depending on the roles and responsibilities, PVG scheme membership may be required in addition to the self declaration.
